Communications Assistant - Student

Position Summary

After provided training, this position will assist the Editorial Manager and the Communications department in generating content for the website, magazine and social media. This position will also create and update the Foundation website. This is a temporary part time, non-exempt, student position.

Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Establish and nurture effective, collegial working relationships with foundation coworkers, university partners, and donors.
  2. Promote and demonstrate respect, collaboration, and friendly customer service in all working relationships.
  3. Assist with writing and editing of KSU Foundation articles, including researching, interviewing and writing stories for the web and magazine.
  4. Assist with the creation and maintenance of the KSU Foundation website, including building new web pages and updating existing web pages.
  5. Organize web resource files for easy access and efficiency.
  6. Protect the confidentiality of all Foundation information.
  7. Other work related duties as assigned.


  •  High School diploma or equivalent and currently enrolled at Kansas State University.
  •  Interest in communication, journalism, public relations or related field.
  •  Requires attention to detail.
  •  Familiarity with AP style.
  •  Good written and verbal communication skills.
  •  Must be able to work under time constraints.
  •  Must have strong organizational skills.
  •  Confidentiality important.
  •  Preference will be given to students with at least a semester’s experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  •  A valid motor vehicle operator’s license and acceptable driving record required.


  • No travel required.

Physical Demands:

  •  Work is primarily sedentary. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. May require occasional physical exertion such as long periods of sitting or standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  •  Commitment and passion for writing, and editing stories.
  •  Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  •  Preference given to applicants with at least a semester of coursework in Communication, Journalism, public relations, or related field.
