Director of Investments

Position Summary

The Director of Investments reports to the Chief Investments Officer. As a key member of the investment team, this position assists in the portfolio management of the investable assets of the KSU Foundation, with direct responsibility for leading and owning the due diligence on existing and prospective investment managers and the analysis/reporting on pooled funds. Tasked with sourcing, diligence, and monitoring of current and prospective public and private managers across global asset classes, this individual will be expected to have an extensive network of investment contacts. As an experienced team member, the director will be expected to lead by example and offer assistance, mentorship and supervision to two part-time student positions. This position also serves as a resource for investment information for donors, staff, campus partners, and affiliated organizations.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with Bloomberg, Investran, eVestment, and other investment programs a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of fund accounting.
  • Experience with non-profits, ideally in higher education.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for the university, the mission of the foundation and the the land grant mission.
  • Possession of a can-do attitude and positive outlook.


  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in finance or related field. CFA designation preferred.
  • A minimum of five years’ institutional portfolio management experience, including the selection and monitoring of outside managers.
  • Thorough understanding of investment theory, global economics and financial markets with working knowledge of business processes in such areas as venture capital, private equity, real estate, etc.
  • Detail oriented, accuracy and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced computer ability in MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, motivational, oral communication and composition, analytical and problem solving skills necessary.
  • Supervisory and time management skills required.
  • Confidentiality, high personal integrity and professionalism required.
  • Surety bond insurable and a valid motor vehicle operator’s license with acceptable driving record required.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license and acceptable driving record required.


  • Position requires overnight and multi-day travel around the country and limited international travel.
