Donor Compliance Manager

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Compliance Services, the Donor Compliance Manager provides support to the organization with regards to the various processes needed to create, document and administer funds established with donor restrictions. The Donor Compliance Manager will lead projects which impact the establishment and administration of funds, design improvements for processes and utilize analytical skills to ensure that funds are administered in a proper and compliant manner. The Donor Compliance Manager has a positive can-do attitude and works as a team player to exercise flexibility in responding to the needs of donors while ensuring necessary compliance to include proper reporting and monitoring the use of funds.

The Donor Compliance Manager will work closely with foundation and university staff, K-State Financial Services, K-State leadership and others to ensure that fund establishment and administration meets the needs of the university, students, and donors and that this is done in a manner consistent with current laws, foundation and university policies and practices.

Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Assist with and/or lead projects for the organization that have a significant impact on the creation of fund documentation or fund administration.
  2. Design processes and procedures that include the training of appropriate staff as back-up to ensure continuity and effective administration.
  3. Manage or serve as support for the coordination of the scholarship awarding process. This includes a major role in the maintenance of the Academic Works software tool for awarding criteria, available funds for awarding, application process and acknowledgement processes.
  4. Manage or serve as support for Memorandum of Understanding process which includes drafting gift agreements, providing critical review and engaging impacted parties to make and/or validate changes, highlight issues for senior management and bring agreements to closure.
  5. Implement and provide training as needed to appropriate constituents who interact with the Academic Works, MOU dashboard or other administrative processes and procedures.
  6. Manage complex data functions and evaluate and interpret analytical, statistical and financial data.
  7. Assist in designing customized reports to track donor activity and donor compliance initiatives; participate in fund utilization monitoring.
  8. Perform detailed research on wide-ranging, ad hoc requests for information regarding gifts and endowments, including but not limited to; providing clarity on donor intent, status of gifts, and validation of gifts and usage for foundation management and the university.
  9. Collaborate with other foundation departments as needed to provide communication information to donors.


  • 3-5 years of experience working in a professional environment.
  • Minimum three years of experience in data analysis and reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have mastered technical skills utilizing Excel, Access and other database systems to filter data accurately.
  • Must establish effective collegial working relationships with colleagues, university partners, donors and external contacts.
  • Demonstrated problem solver who has displayed the ability to take initiative and set priorities while being flexible.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and project management skills with experience in prioritizing assignments to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.


  • No travel required.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is primarily sedentary. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. May require occasional physical exertion such as long periods of sitting or standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in a fundraising, non-profit or development environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of development/philanthropy principles and practices within a complex university setting.
  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment to provide effective customer service.
  • Ability to think strategically.
